Pretox Principles

The principles behind a pretox are simple and straight-forward. A pretox allows the body to cleanse, heal and restore in a healthy way by creating the ideal conditions for the gut ecosystem to flourish. A pretox differs from the traditional detox or cleanse as it is a proactive, not reactive approach to health and wellbeing. 

The first principle of a pretox is REST. A pretox provides the digestive system with a much needed and well-deserved break by prioritising fresh foods and/or intermittent fasting. This greatly reduces the digestive workload and allows the digestive system to rest and relax. Furthermore, it can help to really focus on self-care and rest during your pretox. Take an afternoon nap if you should feel like it, or soak away in a warm bath with some epsom salts and essential oils. Regular R&R is just as important for your mind as it is for your microbes.

The second principle of the pretox is REPAIR. Overtime, our digestive systems fall out of balance as life sometimes gets in the way of eating what fuels us best.  A pretox encourages healthy gut microbiome by repairing and restoring our digestive systems. As a pretox is more sustainable than a detox, the lasting impacts of this process will help to enhance your overall health and well-being in the long-term. 

The third principle of the pretox is REPLENISH. A pretox grants us the opportunity to replenish and heal our bodies naturally with easily assimilated vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. The types of foods we eat, the amount of processing it undergoes and the lack of diversity in our dietary habits all have a measurable impact on our microbiome. This goes hand in hand with principle number four, REBOOT. A pretox gives our digestive system a fresh start by gently cleansing the system of incompletely digested waste. 

The lasting benefits of a pretox stem from the fact that as opposed to a traditional detox, a pretox does not promote extreme behavioural changes! This is incredibly important to the longevity of our health and wellness and forms the fifth and final principle of the pretox which is ROUTINE, because long-term health shouldn’t start with a short-term mindset.
